Education & Child Care
We provide financing to help fix one piece of the complex early care and education puzzle -- the build-out of physical space for early childhood education programs and child care centers.
Access to quality child care and early childhood education programs are crucial to the wellbeing and economic stability of families. Decades of research have shown that early education builds foundational cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills during a child’s most rapid brain development. Unfortunately, many families in New York City struggle to find quality child care and early education options or simply can’t afford these programs. After rent, child care is often the largest monthly expense for thousands of households in the city. The impact of insufficient child care options delays learning, limits career opportunities for parents, and fuels inequality throughout the boroughs.
Our work includes financing the construction of seven new Head Start early childhood education centers in Brooklyn and the Bronx that will serve approximately 469 children. The new centers are run by Grand Street Settlement, one of the largest and most impactful social services organizations in New York City. We are also financing the fit-out of a new day care center in the Bronx operated by Sunshine Learning Center that will serve approximately 160 children from infancy through kindergarten.
