Charles B. Wang Community Health Center
NYCR-CDE provided $10 million in New Markets Tax Credit financing for the construction of a new healthcare center for the Federally Qualified Health Center in Flushing, Queens.
The capital helped fund the construction of the Charles B. Wang’s Community Health Center’s new 80,000 square foot facility that provides medical, dental, mental health, and enabling services. The center accommodates approximately 122,000 patient visits per year. Over half of Flushing’s population is foreign born individuals and the neighborhood is also home to the largest group of immigrant seniors in New York City. As the area continues to grow, the need for affordable and high-quality medical services increases. The new multi-story facility expands the availability of dental, internal medicine, mental health, and OB/GYN services within the community. The majority of its patients are low income and often face cultural, language, and insurance barriers when it comes to accessing healthcare. As a Federally Qualified Health Center and Patient Centered Medical Home, all services at the new center are provided regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Founded in 1971, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center is a nonprofit organization with six Federally Qualified Health Center in Lower Manhattan and Queens. The nonprofit serves more than 65,000 unique patients annually and provides primary healthcare to members of the community with a focus on Asian Americans. Its mission is to ensure that everyone has full and equal access to the highest level of healthcare regardless of the ability to pay.
“We know this location will mean so much to the surrounding community and continue Charles B. Wang’s long history of serving those in greatest need well.”
– Former New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan
