Fresh Direct Headquarters
(Phase I)

A NYCRC-managed entity provided an $85 million loan to help fund the first phase of construction of Fresh Direct’s 750,000 square foot food processing, warehousing, and distribution center in the South Bronx.

Fresh Direct is one of the nation’s leading online, direct-to-consumer food and grocery providers. The state-of-the-art food processing and distribution center is one of the largest in New York City and allowed Fresh Direct to expand its service area and operate more efficiently by consolidating operations into one facility. The complex includes space for food processing, warehousing, and distribution as well as corporate offices for Fresh Direct. The building boasts 254,000 square feet of refrigeration; 50,000 square feet of receiving, shipping, and customer order staging; 80,000 square feet for operations and transportation; and approximately 9 miles of conveying and sorting systems. The project site is located in a government-owned industrial park in the South Bronx known as the Harlem River Yard Transportation and Distribution Center.

New York City is home to a thriving food manufacturing, distribution, and retail industry and the sector is a vital part of the region’s economy. The construction of Fresh Direct’s complex is a key component of efforts to strengthen and grow the food industry as well as create new jobs in the Bronx.
